Throughout internship we have a few requirments to pass. The first one is to have a completed blog, next is to have a completed photo essay, and last but not least a internship project. The internship project is open to whatever you and your mentor decide. My mentor and I decided to follow and blog our project in the classroom. Our project is chicken project based off a play they have been working very hard to produce called the Barn Yard MOOOsical. I will be creating a Weebly. By doing so I will upload the musical and be blogging everyday from when the chickens hatch. I will need to be organized and responible. I will also need to learn how to link and upload videos. I will need support from my mentor, she will need to inform me on what the main points of the projects are.

Something really cool that they do at John Muir School is that they do something called a Paideia seminar. This is a lot like a Socratic seminar. We have a topic in a paideia seminar and In it we would have a reading or a song that goes with it. In a Socratic seminar we have a topic question and a reading that the topic question is about. They are both named after people. The paideia seminar is named after Mortimer Adler. The internship is going great and the kindergarteners are learning A LOT! It's crazy how much you learn in kindergarteners, Kerry is a great teacher! This internship has definitely improved my skill of waking up early and being on time. I wasn't good at it so I pretty much had to practice and set alarms ever 5 min to make sure I was waking up on time! My day started at 5:30 in the morning. Yep! You heard me 5:30. Now I would never think that I would ever be able to wake up this early, but I did. After the first 20 mintues of getting ready I got this boost of energy and then it slowed down at 11:40 am. Boy it wasn't even half way over and I was exhausted watching and taking care of all the kids. The school day was from 8:55-3:47. Although the school day was not that long it was long for Kerry and I. The school was located past La Jolla which meant that us Carlsbad residents had to leave at 6:45 to have time for traffic and setting up the classroom. Even though class ended at 3:47 we didn't get out of there till 4:15. Boy I am more than exhausted, I will be sleeping good tonight. I am super excited for the eggs to hatch. You may be asking what eggs? Chicken Eggs! We will be having baby chicks on Wednesday!!! I am so pumped for the rest of this internship. The other teachers are very friendly.
My mentor is Kerry Ferguson, like I stated in my first blog post. She is a kindergartne teacher at John Muir School. A few skills that are incorrporated in this job is patience, understanding, not being to lenient, and understanding how children learn. A typical work day at John Muir is like any other school, theres different subjects that are taught, there's reccess, lunch, and homework given!
