Lifethoughts Throughout the semester we had many lifethoughts. We would recieve a lifethought in the begining of the period. Here are a few that standed out to me. Lifethought 113 What is the difference between oceanography and marine biology? Why do we need to conduct research on ships? I believe oceanography is the study of currents in the ocean and the way it works and marine biology is the study of organsims in the ocean. And the reason why you need to conduct research on ships is because its eaiser and more reliable. For example if you need to get a sample of the sand in middle of the pacific ocean and you grab some and come back to the lab with it and you end up needing more well it's easier to stay docked in that area and grab whatever you need for the lab. Lifethought 114 Describe your experiences in the ocean/lake/river and on a boat. I was born in California and so I've been around it my whole life, weather I'm swimming in it or fishing. I love being around water and doing different recreational activities in them. Lifethought 117 What role or job would you like to have and see yourself doing on a research vessel (The RV Melville). I could definitely see my self being one of the scientist or marine biologist on there. Lifethought 122 How easily do you digest the different foods that you eat? Give examples. Is there some that you feel don't "sit" well? Has this changed with your health plan? My stomach is ok with most foods. The only main thing I can think of is when I have too much fast food or greasy foods, it doesn't go so well after. Lifethought 123 How do you think the health of your circulatory system is right now compared to 1 month ago. Give a detail (educated guess) of at least one specific change. My lungs feel healthier with all of that running and water. Lifethought 102 Make a list of all words that you have heard that relate to genetics and genomics. Try to get to 23 vocab terms. (Why...because that's Mr. L.'s favorite number) Carrier, Chromosone, double helix, cloning, gene pool, gene, mutation, heredity, homozogous, mutate, mutation, x chromosone, y chromosone, vector, recessive Lifethought 103 What do you think will be different from dissecting the fetal pig and how a med student walks through the analysis of a cadaver? A fetal pig is closer to the way our body works, so it will be very different by the way you cut the skin open and how careful you have to be. Reading over all material and carefull cutting with permission is how a med student walks through the analysis of a cadaver. Lifethought 127 What plants that you know of have medicinal properties and are used for healing purposes? Aloe- Sun burns Marijuana- Sleep Ginger- Relieve Nausea Oregeno- cleaning wounds Lifethought 111 What response have you gotten from the researcher so far and what do you expect the art commission to be like? I have gotten all my questions answer and I think it will be a bright creative piece. Lifethought 129 Write as much as you can about the terms: niche, invasive, trophic level Niche- empty hole? Invasive- unwanted trophic level- something to do where plants live Lifethought 23 What are 3 animal/animal interactions on the San Dieguito River and what are 3 animal/plant interactions near the San Dieguito River? (6 total interactions) Snake- Rabbit (food) Rabbit-shrub (shelter) Deer- Moutain Lion (f00d) Rabbit- Shrub (shelter) Lifethought 26 Most of us live within the Chaparrel Biome. We've also talked about the Coastal Sage Scrub Biome. List as many other Biome's as you can in the next couple minutes. Hot dessert costal dessert wetlands savanna grassland Lifethought 27 Why is having high biodiversity important? The higher the biodiversity, the higher the number of species, and the lower the rate of extinction. Lifethought 212 What is symbiosis? organism dependent on each other? Lifethought 210What life is found at the mouth of a river and the surrounding beach? Why is a wetland key to water quality in the ocean surrounding a river? Crabs, small fish, tadepools second question- unknown Lifethought 49 What are the steps to creating a video as outlined (mentioned) in the project sheet? Subject of video Lines of video music for video flim video organzie videos Edit video Lifethought 410 What do you know about Evolution? Not much i went to a private school. I know that two things colided and "create" earth. Lifethought 411 Do you believe in Evolution? Why? Does your family believe in Evolution? Do your friends? Who is most influential to you in your life? What would be their motives to have you think about it one way or another? No I dont believe in Evolution, I am a lutheran. Some family and friends do believe. My mom is most influential. She is open to anything really and isnt super strong on either or.
