http://mrsferguson-brandts-class.weebly.com Attached is my Internship Project. I created a weebly that will be a DP similar to Dr. Pattons Weebly for Kerry next year. Feel free to explore it! This will help them alot before the next school year starts! They will be able to organize and prep next year! Overall this internship was a rewarding and great learning experience. I loved the kids I taught and had a great time with them! I learned many skills throughout the month!

A few characteristic that I saw in my work environment that people had were: passion and a great work ethic.
Mrs. Ferguson and a few other teachers really were passionate about teaching. Inside of creating busy work for the end of the year they had create a few more projects to fill up the rest of the year. Also they truly were trying to help the kids learn and grow to pass Kindergarten or which ever grade they were teaching. Someone that represented a great work ethic was Lara, the school's principal, and Kerry Ferguson. After our lockdown last Thursday, Lara really wanted to help improve the school's fences and have a sturdy plan of action. She spent several hours with the police department and arranged for a two hour class for the teachers and her to plan a safe protecall. Kerry showed great work ethic by showing up hour an half early every morning before school and staying after school to clean up/ attend meetings. Also when it was the Kinder's lunch time she would walk them to the cafeteria and help the kids with getting their lunch. Instead of answer questions about my internship I will post my presentation that gives you a summary of all of it. Overall I mainly answered questions 2 and 6. 2.How did you make a meaningful contribution to your workplace? -helping the kids read better by doing silent reading 1 on 1 -progress check ups 6.What did you learn about your own work from your internship project? - I need to make sure I make it easy to change because Mrs. Ferguson still isnt sure what grade she is teaching WOW! Internship is almost done and it feels like I have been working here for over a month! I give Mrs.Ferguson and all other teachers props! I don't know how she does it. Waking up so early, repeating yourself over and over again, and leaving late, I'm amazed. I know that working with kids could be a possibility that maybe I can incorporate some how in criminal justice/law. I love being around them and their unique personalities. I am hoping that my job will end up with a great staff. Because as I have noticed at John Muir school they're staff are so close and have a great time during lunch!
There has only been a few times I self advocated. The first is when I totally forgot how to use the copy machine and I had asked another teacher that was in there to help me out. I was kinda nervous but overall I am glad I asked because I did not want to be known as "the intern that broke the copy machine". Another time I self advocated was when I was just about to give a lesson but did not fully understand the structure of it. In a kindergarten class there is ALWAYS something to do! Whether your helping a kid spell or making projects for the next day. It has been very rare for Kerry or I to have free time. Coming early to school has not been a problem for me because I get dropped of at her house which then we carpool down together. We get to school everyday an hour an half early if not a little more. That might sound like a lot of time but it sure goes fast when you have to prepare for the whole day. Throughout internship we have a few requirments to pass. The first one is to have a completed blog, next is to have a completed photo essay, and last but not least a internship project. The internship project is open to whatever you and your mentor decide. My mentor and I decided to follow and blog our project in the classroom. Our project is chicken project based off a play they have been working very hard to produce called the Barn Yard MOOOsical. I will be creating a Weebly. By doing so I will upload the musical and be blogging everyday from when the chickens hatch. I will need to be organized and responible. I will also need to learn how to link and upload videos. I will need support from my mentor, she will need to inform me on what the main points of the projects are.
Something really cool that they do at John Muir School is that they do something called a Paideia seminar. This is a lot like a Socratic seminar. We have a topic in a paideia seminar and In it we would have a reading or a song that goes with it. In a Socratic seminar we have a topic question and a reading that the topic question is about. They are both named after people. The paideia seminar is named after Mortimer Adler. The internship is going great and the kindergarteners are learning A LOT! It's crazy how much you learn in kindergarteners, Kerry is a great teacher! This internship has definitely improved my skill of waking up early and being on time. I wasn't good at it so I pretty much had to practice and set alarms ever 5 min to make sure I was waking up on time! My day started at 5:30 in the morning. Yep! You heard me 5:30. Now I would never think that I would ever be able to wake up this early, but I did. After the first 20 mintues of getting ready I got this boost of energy and then it slowed down at 11:40 am. Boy it wasn't even half way over and I was exhausted watching and taking care of all the kids. The school day was from 8:55-3:47. Although the school day was not that long it was long for Kerry and I. The school was located past La Jolla which meant that us Carlsbad residents had to leave at 6:45 to have time for traffic and setting up the classroom. Even though class ended at 3:47 we didn't get out of there till 4:15. Boy I am more than exhausted, I will be sleeping good tonight. I am super excited for the eggs to hatch. You may be asking what eggs? Chicken Eggs! We will be having baby chicks on Wednesday!!! I am so pumped for the rest of this internship. The other teachers are very friendly.
My mentor is Kerry Ferguson, like I stated in my first blog post. She is a kindergartne teacher at John Muir School. A few skills that are incorrporated in this job is patience, understanding, not being to lenient, and understanding how children learn. A typical work day at John Muir is like any other school, theres different subjects that are taught, there's reccess, lunch, and homework given!
